Provide workshops on dyslexia, learning disabilities, phonemic awareness, language structure, multi-sensory instruction and accommodations/modifications for educators, paraprofessionals and parents.

Programs

Tutoring children and adults with reading, spelling, writing and processing deficits using multi sensory structured language methodologies. Among the researched based programs we use Wilson Reading System, Phonics Blitz and Phonics Boost, LiPS, Seeing Stars, isualizing and Verbalizing for Language Comprehension (V/V)

Gift of Learning

While we aim to ensure every child reaches their full potential academically, they are also taught to understand how they learn best. Understanding their unique learning style and needs empowers them to be self-advocates.

Multi-sensory Reading Instruction

Kids learn in many different ways. Some do best with information they hear or see while others with tactile and kinesthetic input. Our programs incorporate all of these by using manipulatives to teach phonemic awareness, phonics, word analysis, spelling, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary

What is Dyslexia?

Dyslexia is a neurological condition caused by a different wiring of the brain. There is no cure for dyslexia and individuals with this condition must learn coping strategies. Research indicates that dyslexia has no relationship to intelligence. Individuals with dyslexia are neither more nor less intelligent than the general population. But some say the way individuals with dyslexia think can actually be an asset in achieving success.

Language based learning disabilities

15-20% of the population has a language-based learning disability. Of the students with specific learning disabilities receiving special education services, 70-80% have deficits in reading. Dyslexia is the most common cause of reading, writing and spelling difficulties. Dyslexia affects males and females nearly equally as well as, people from different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds nearly equally.

Reading diagnostics

A diagnostic reading assessment is used to measure students' skills in each of the five components of reading: vocabulary, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency and comprehension.

Extensive experience in Orton-Gillingham Methodologies

This language based, multisensory, structured, sequential, cumulative approach has been successful since the 1930s.

Consultant to school districts

Help the school districts in implementing methods of helping children who show sign of difficulty learning and reading or that present signs of ADHD/ADD and emotional/behavior problems.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are a variety of multisensory structured language programs. What makes these programs different is that they teach language structure in a systematic and cumulative way. Sounds, syllables, sentences, meaningful word parts and reading in context are taught and practiced in reading and writing. Constant review and repetition are part of each of these approaches.

Beware of the diagnosis of “developmental lag”. Research strongly suggests that most cases of reading failure do not spontaneously get better and children do not just catch up once they fall behind unless they receive intensive intervention. Most parents of children who have experienced reading problems regret waiting too long to get help.

Recent studies have shown that one out of five people have difficulty with reading that requires special instruction. Dyslexia occurs in people of all backgrounds and intellectual levels. People with dyslexia can be very bright.

They are often capable or even gifted in areas such as art, computer science, design, drama, electronics, math mechanics, music physics, sales, and sports. In addition dyslexia runs in families; parents with dyslexia are very likely to have children with dyslexia.

The exact cause of dyslexia are still not completely clear, but anatomical and brain imagery studies show differences in the way the brain of a person with dyslexia develops and functions.

Most people with dyslexia have been found to have problems with identifying the separate speech sounds within a word and/or learning how letters represent those sounds, a key factor in their reading difficulties.

Dyslexia is not due to either lack of intelligence or desire to learn; with appropriate teaching methods, students with dyslexia can learn successfully.

Dyslexia is a lifelong condition. With proper help, many people with dyslexia can learn to read and write well. Early identification and treatment is the key to helping individuals with dyslexia achieve in school and in life. Most people with dyslexia need help from a teacher, tutor, or therapist specially trained in using multisensory, structured language approach.

It is important for these individuals to be taught by a systematic and explicit method that involves several senses (hearing, seeing, touching) at the same time. Many individuals with dyslexia need one-on-one help so that they can move forward at their own pace.

In addition, students with dyslexia often need a great deal of structured practice and immediate, corrective feedback to develop automatic word recognition skills.
